New Orleans has experienced a third consecutive year of declining violent crime in 2025, with murders falling from 266 in 2022 to 121 in 2025, a trend that began well before the recent deployment of National Guard troops ordered by President Trump. It is deeply troubling to see a President claim credit for a positive trend he did not create while deploying military forces into an American city against the wishes of local officials, an action that fundamentally challenges local governance and risks the militarization of civil society.
