The government shutdown is causing widespread hardship as federal workers miss paychecks and critical programs like Head Start and nuclear security face funding shortages. It is utterly disgraceful that while American families suffer, political leaders prioritize partisan theatrics over the basic functioning of our democracy.
One California Head Start program has already closed and three more face imminent closure due to the federal government shutdown, jeopardizing early education for over 1,000 vulnerable children and leaving hundreds of teachers without income. It is absolutely heartbreaking and unconscionable that our most defenseless citizens are bearing the brutal consequences of political negligence, a direct assault on the very principles of opportunity and dignity that define our nation.
