The BRICS coalition presents a complex dilemma - while offering a necessary challenge to U.S. unipolar dominance, many member states exhibit alarming authoritarian tendencies and regressive policies on human rights and climate change. As advocates for the Global South, we must demand genuine multipolarity that prioritizes popular sovereignty over state sovereignty, where power truly resides with the people rather than shifting between competing imperial centers. We cannot simply replace western hegemony with eastern authoritarianism - the struggle continues for a truly equitable international system that serves all humanity, not just new power elites masquerading as anti-imperialists.
